Diesel Oxidation Catalyst Information and Facts

A diesel oxidation catalyst consists of honey comb like structure which is coated with the metal platinum. This is enclosed in a container made from stainless steel. The design of the honeycomb is such that it provides ample surface area for the gases to completely exhaust. This help convert harmful pollutants into harmless substances like carbon di oxide and water.

These days there is added pressure y the government to control the harmful emissions from the vehicle. There are strict rules and standards which need to be adhered to. These can however be controlled by the quick and efficient solution provided by the diesel oxidation catalyst.

It helps oxidise carbon mono oxide and hydrocarbons. It doesn’t make a great deal of difference whether you are using the diesel vehicle on road or off road, it is necessary to adhere to the strict emission standards. The catalyst is actually an after treatment device. It helps to break down the pollutants in the exhaust. It quite similar to catalytic converter found in cars.

Diesel oxidation catalyst can cost anywhere from 600 to 2000 dollar. This difference in price is generally due to different manufacturers, installation requirements and the specialised needs of different engines. These are generally heavier than a muffler, this is why it requires a special mounting process which can increase the initial cost.

With proper installation and maintenance, the catalyst can last for decades. In order to ensure that it works properly you would need to take help from additional tools like a catalyst cleaner. However, frequent engine problems can cause the life span of the catalyst to shorten.

How does the diesel oxidation catalyst work?

  • A diesel oxidation catalyst works by oxidising unburnt hydrocarbons and carbon mono oxide. In reality for such a reaction to take place, very high temperatures are required. However the presence of the catalyst allows these reactions to take place at a much lower temperature.
  • The catalyst in turn is heated by the hot exhaust gases which are given off as soon as the engine is started. The point at which the oxidation occurs is known as the light off temperature. After this stage the conversion rate steadies and remains constant.
  • Though it’s a known fact that the performance ability of the catalyst starts lowering as the vehicle starts to age. The sulfur components are responsible for casing a great deal of build-up on the catalyst eventually leading to its inefficiency.
  • With the buildup the performance of the catalytic platinum particles also starts to decrease due to the lessening of its aggregate surface area. Since less of the conversion area is exposed t the gases, the conversion efficiency of the catalyst starts to fail.

Diesel oxidation catalysts are the most effective tools for reducing the harmful emissions from vehicles. These are the best means of making the world a better place to live in. one which is free from pollutants and harmful gases. It can help the world progress and increase industrialisation while also providing solutions to reduce diesel engine emissions.…

Paper Coffee Cups

Paper cup for coffee or paper cup is a kind of disposable cup originally made of paper coated with plastic to prevent liquid from seeping through the paper cup. This coating is also made from recycled paper or newspaper. This kind of paper coffee cups was the first to appear after the traditional porcelain coffee cup.

These kinds of cups are seen in several establishments such as: hospitals, schools, several cafeterias administrative offices, for reasons of hygiene.

The making

For the creation of this type of glass base paper called cupboard is used, and it is manufactured in paper machines.

They have a coating in the shape of a waterproof barrier that requires high rigidity and strength. It needs a particular design for the manufacture of the glass. To fulfil hygienic requirements, papers are usually made of new materials that in particular is not recycled. The most effective paper coffee cups are the ones that withstand the heat and do not leak through the crease. The only exception is that the cup includes an extra insulating layer to keep the heat inside of itself.

The waterproofing of these cups when they first started was done in a much different way than nowadays. Before they were waterproofed by depositing a quantity of clay at the end of the glass, the glass began to rotate at a great speed, so that the clay deposited on the bottom of the glass rose up against its walls. This waterproofs the paper of the glass.

Although this method was done, this same method made the drinks smelled like cardboard and knew the same way. In spite of this for hot drinks, this method could not be realised, since condensation was formed on the outside of the paper cup until arriving at the cardboard of the same, doing of this way the unstable glass.

In order to avoid this, the manufacturer of paper cups created the technique of spraying the glass with wax both inside and outside. However, this technique was obsolete with the creation of glass with polyethylene, with this process the cardboard surface was covered with a thin layer of polyethylene, waterproofing the cardboard and welding the joints. For some time a new kind of glass has been created, it does not need wax or plastic for the waterproofing of the glass, thus making it possible to recycle a large part of the glass.

Globalisation

Now that the world has globalised the coffee chains, they have also been flooded with the garbage generated by this kind of industries. In Australia alone, more than 5 million cups of coffee are consumed, where very few of these are recycled, generating a large amount of 30,000 tons of garbage per year.

Coffee cups are usually made of laminated paper and plastic, which makes them difficult to recycle. With all this in mind and aware that the amount of waste generated by this industry has led an English investor, to create a glass containing an easy plastic film to separate in any recycling plant, thus leaving a paper 100% recyclable.

Environmentalists from all around the world applauded this invention, stating that this product on the market will be an innovation for the plastic cup industries in general. And possibly this movement will help that related industries such as the food industry that abuse the excessive use of packaging be aware that the vast majority cannot recycle to create more recyclable packaging.…
