Local Legends @ The Sando

Over two the big nights in the festival week..taking off with a very big loud bang from our 'Local Legends'. With discount beer and cocktails for ticket holders these gigs are going to rock the socks off Newtown.

Sunday the 28th September is headlined by festival veteran & favourite Mz Ann Thropik, with her fearless tiger army by her side. Her sets never fail to deliver. This year we have invited our neighbours over from NZ, Keller Kinder gracing us with their Gothic/ Industrial goodness. The night will also see 2 bands from the Blue Moon Band Massacre comp take to the stage.

After a quiet cup of tea & a little lie down head back to the Sandringham on the Monday 29th September to see the ladies of Sydney 's alternative rock. Headlined by vampire loving Brigitte Handley & The Dark Shadows and supported by the beautifully haunting Belle Phoenix. The night will also feature 2 bands from the Blue Moon Band Massacre comp.

Mz Ann Thropik
In a world where technology has taken over so much that any emotion is downloadable, over saturated and over exposed Mz Ann Thropik dons her Tiger Hat with a goofy smile and charges forward with a positive attitude followed by the “Tiger Hat Army”. Born to a second hand guitar in 2001, Mz Ann Thropik has been playing Australia wide for six years. Starting off as a punk rock riot grrl band, shifting through heavy rock influences and adding a little sassy gothabilly, followed by a twist of pop, she's become her own sound. Psych Carni
Since 1991, Melbourne underground noise band Psych Carni have tortured audiences with confrontational gigs of mechano-eroticism. Long before the Burlesque revival and pre the Antichrist Superstar, the bands necro- psychedellic carnival shows assaulted punters at rock, goth and bondage venues . In 2005 the band reformed for the Teknikunst Festival playing at the Ding Dong Lounge with Curse Ov Dialect and David Thrussell. Keller Kinder
Style: Gothic / Industrial / Electronica
Keller Kinder were formed in 2006 by Kommander Kind and Kaptain Keller. Originally starting out with an electronic doom-metal sound, Keller Kinder's music has grown faster, dancier and harder over the last two years. Their first show was in June 2006 and within a year Keller Kinder had solidified themselves as one of the most promising and enjoyable new Goth/Industrial acts in New Zealand. After only a handful of select performances and having recruited two more members (Kaiser Killin and Kolonel Kain), August 2007 saw Keller Kinder play support for Psyche in Auckland to good reception. Meat Safe
Meat Safe formed in December 2007 due to an open slot on a New Year’s Eve bill and because it popped into JoSh’s head after Nathan wouldn’t put his God damned boots on when they were going to the Enmore Theatre because he’d just swallowed a fine amount of tequila. Brigitte Handley & The Dark Shadows are a Sydney based 3 piece who's "call to non-conformity" and sound has been described as "indie rock 'n' roll with a dark edge and defiant punk attitude". The Charles Manson Experiment The Mansons (as they are affectionately known) are a 4-piece with shared male/female lead vocals (a la Sonic Youth, Jefferson Airplane, The Kills). “The indie grunge wail of the Charles Manson Experiment”[Cec Busby - FasterLouder ] descended upon the Sydney music underground in 2004, their "melodic pop tunes shrouded in masses of heavy grunge guitars" [Vivian Huyn -The Brag] reminiscent of both 1990's alternative and 1960's psychedelic rock 'n' roll.
