Artists are treated to burlesque dancers, carnies, and fetish models posing in elaborate costumes. Artists compete for prizes, along with great tunes, sweet treats, a shimmy here and there between poses and a tell all photo and sketch blog updated after each session.
What is Dr Sketchy’s?
Dr. Sketchy’s is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement.
When many artists think of life drawing, they think of sterile rooms, bad lighting and models with nary a hint of personality.
Dr Sketchy’s is here to change all that. Started in Brooklyn by artist and burlesque girl Molly Crabapple,Dr Sketchy’s now has over 30 branches around the globe, including Hollywood, London, Berlin, Edinburgh, Toronto, Auckland and Melbourne. It’s also spawned a companion book, Dr Sketchy’s Official Rainy Day Colouring Book, Crabapple and John Leavitt, published by Sepulculture Books.
Since it’s inception in ‘05 Dr Sketchy’s has received international media coverage. Time Out NY says: “If you’re looking for life drawing classes, forget Pratt. Try Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School”, while the Melbourne Sunday Age promises that Dr Sketchy’s “will cure you of every boring art class you’ve ever been to.” |
